LIFE EXPERIENCES AND CULTURE
Hello. Welcome to my ePortfolio. My name is Rion. I am from Miyazaki, a small city in southern Japan. My hometown is surrounded by nature, both mountains and oceans. I have been in Ireland for about four months and found many interesting similarities and differences between Irish and Japanese cultures. Today I’m going to share with you my experiences of Ireland.

The first difference I noticed is that the weather in Ireland is so changeable and I always need to bring an umbrella. Even though I see the clear and blue sky in the morning, the dark and damp weather shortly shows up. In contrast, the weather in Japan is stable all day. My hometown is especially famous for the highest number of sunny days in Japan. People can see the sunlight almost every day. In addition, I see many people in Ireland walking on the streets without an umbrella when it is rainy. They put a hood over their head and avoid getting wet. Of course, I have seen some Japanese people wearing hoods, but using an umbrella is more common.

Another difference that I found is about food. Bread and potatoes are the main food in Ireland. I usually have a slice of toast and fruit in the morning, a sandwich for lunch, and stew including potatoes, carrots, and beef for dinner. My host mother also cooks baked potato as a dinner frequently.

I want to go to These diets are different from the ones I used to have in Japan. Our staple diet is rice, so we eat rice in every meal. A typical Japanese breakfast is rice and miso soup.
